I want a Chick-Fil-A re-do

I had my very first taste of chick-fil-a about three weeks ago and I would appreciate a re-do. Since living in the US, I've tried many different fast-food restaurants but never chick-fil-a. I'd heard all the hype about it, but for some reason, I never brought myself to try it. When the new Chick-fil-a opened up in Champaign, I saw it as an opportunity to try it then. Because it was the only one in the area, and it was brand new, the line went on for hours. The restaurant itself was filled with people, and the drive-through was swamped with cars. On the day I set out with my family to get it, we were discouraged by the line and decided to get it another day.

On the fateful day that I did, I felt like I did everything all wrong. I wasn't even the one who bought it for myself. One of my friends bought it during 5th hour and brought it back for me during 6th. By the time it got to me, it was cold and dry, which wasn't her fault, but the circumstances could've been better. It got to me, cold and dry which was disappointing, and I was left to slowly, quietly eat it in the back of my French class.

I expected my first experience to be better than it was. I wanted it at a Chick-fil-a restaurant, being able to look at the menu and order off of it as well as sit down and eat there. I'm not sure why I wanted it to be this way, but it was and I was disappointed as to how it turned out.

Like I already said, I would like a re-do and on the day I finally decide to do it right, I'll actually go to the restaurant, order off the menu, and hopefully have a better experience with Chick-fil-a than I have now.

  1. I really like this post because it's interesting to see how we have two different perspectives on an experience. Like you, I only recently tried Chick-Fil-A and I was able to have the experience that you seem to have wanted. It really shows how circumstance can completely change your view of a certain memory.

  2. Alright, this comment is only going to slightly relate to your post. I always thought it was fairly common knowledge that Chick-Fil-A donates to homophobic organizations, but when Chick-Fil-A came to Champaign I found out it wasn't. At best guess, I'd say maybe 50% of the people I talked to knew about Chick-Fil-A's donation history and public comments. I think I just spent my pre-teen years in the gay corner of the internet or the part of the internet that swings left and likes to feel better about themselves by boycotting certain things. Certainly, boycotting Chick-Fil-A is a move that gets you some brownie points in the LGBT+ community, and that's what the certain subset of fairly privileged liberals like to do to make them feel better about themselves. Turns out some people have never heard about boycotting Chick-Fil-A at all. Part of that could also be due to the main chaos of Chick-Fil-A's controversy being in 2012, when we were still pretty young to not notice such things. Personally, I've been taught to view Chick-Fil-A as a really horrible company, and since I didn't have any way to eat there before this year, I never did. But with Chick-Fil-A in town now, I actually have to think about boycotting them. In general, I don't eat fast food a lot so it almost doesn't matter. But it's the principal of the thing. Part of me wonders if boycotting every bad company is worth it. There's a lot more messed up corporations than you think out there, and trying to keep track of them all is just too much effort. At some point you need to continue on with your life. So the easier solution is to figure out which cause means the most to you or which corporation is doing the most damage (which is often something you'd only find out if someone raises attention to it on the internet). In the end, it's a matter of personal choice and what makes sense for you. But I always feel a little biased -- because it was basically drilled into me through whatever internet corners I ended up in that buying from Chick-Fil-A is bad, I have a gut negative reaction to people saying they eat the food. I recognize that not everyone knows about Chick-Fil-A's problematic nature or has the mental energy to boycott it, but it's interesting how being taught that something is the very bane of a a community's existence will condition you into thinking it's all-important and make you absolutely loathe it, even though you might not entirely know why.
Anyway, sorry you had to eat cold food. That sucks.

  3. Ify I agree, I want a Chick-Fil-A do over! The first time I had it was at an airport while I was traveling alone with my brother. We were rushing in the airport and Chick-Fil-A was the best and fastest food available. I will I had been able to have it for the first time in a different place because I was exhausted, in a bad mood, and had to take care of my brother so I did not really get to enjoy the food.
